Food Jobs Summit Held on Sterling College's Campus
Sterling College announced today that it will be holding a Food Jobs Summit on its campus. The Summit will be held on June 14th, from 11 am to 1 pm. The Summit is designed for people who are interested in jobs in the sustainable agriculture and artisan food fields, and it is co-sponsored by the Center for an Agricultural Economy and Good Food Jobs. Some of the employers that will be at the Food Jobs Summit include: Pete’s Greens, High Mowing Organic Seeds, Caledonia Spirits, the Cellars at Jasper Hill, and Vermont Soy. Read More
Agriculture Programs and Courses at the VT Tech Institute for Applied Agriculture and Food Systems
The Summer Diversified Agriculture Program offered through the Institute for Applied Agriculture and Food Systems is a seven week agriculture emersion experience at the Randolph Center campus. This program offers hands-on practical experiences in business management planning, vegetable and fruit crop management, poultry and dairy husbandry, with service learning experiences on Vermont farms. Throughout the program students will work on Vermont Tech's organically managed vegetable farm and working dairy operation and earn a total of six academic credits: three in Agricultural Techniques and three in Vegetable Crop Management and Production. A Web-based Tool to Coordinate Gleaners Statewide is Unveiled
Salvation Farms has created and launched a new, web-based tool called the Gleaners Interface, which streamlines and standardizes the gleaning process. The new online platform makes it easier for members of the Vermont Gleaning Collective to recruit, register, and coordinate volunteers, and to track all hours contributed and every pound that member organizations capture and distribute statewide. Rural Vermont’s 29th Annual Celebration: Potluck, Storytelling, Annual Meeting, and More!
Rural Vermont invites ALL Vermonters who care about the food they eat and the people raising it to their 29th Annual Celebration. It’s on Thursday, May 15th from 6-9pm at the American Legion Hall, Route 103 South in Chester. This special evening will get underway with an old fashioned potluck supper, cash bar, and social hour. Following the brief annual meeting, farmers tell their stories! Personal and compelling stories about real food will lead into a dynamic conversation about the barriers and misguided beliefs that are suppressing food freedom and rallying Vermonters to action.
