2014 Vermont Organic Dairy Producers Conference

UVM Extension's Northwest Crops & Soils Program and NOFA-Vermont's Organic Dairy and Livestock Technical Assistance program invite you to attend the 2014 Vermont Organic Dairy Producers Conference. This year, we will be looking at "resiliency" as a strategy to optimize and maintain soils and high quality forages on your organic dairy. Keynote speakers include Drs. Silvia Abel-Caines of Organic Valley/CROPP; Fred Magdoff, UVM emeritus professor; and Tom Kilcer of Advanced Ag Systems. We will also include our popular research updates - with a focus on soil and forage quality projects - and our farmer panel.

Vermont Farm to College Convening

How can colleges be leaders in changing the food system through education and purchasing? How can a college farm intersect both academics and food purchasing/preparation? The convening is designed for students, dining services, administrators, producers, distributors, food system organizations to build cross-office/cross-disciplinary teams from different campuses to both learn from other campuses, and have time to work together on some visioning/planning/discussion about their campus food system.

Hemp Networking Event and Film Screening of the Hemp Documentary "Bringing it Home"

In light of President Obama signing the federal Farm Bill that included a section which allows hemp cultivation by higher educational institutions, and Vermont’s passage of transformative hemp legislation last year, Rural Vermont, Full Sun Company of Middlebury, VT, and Vote Hemp will be hosting a hemp networking gathering and special screening of the hemp documentary, Bringing it Home. The event is intended for all those interested in cultivating hemp, and networking with other Vermont farmers, processors and advocates.
