Hen & Worm Wrangler (Black Dirt Farm)

Organization Black Dirt Farm
Location 393 Stannard Mountain Rd
Greensboro Bend, Vermont 05842

The Hen and Worm Wrangler is a critical part of daily and seasonal operations of the farm. The H&W Wrangler is charged with managing the Hen and Worm Spheres of Responsibility and in order to do this for our small but intensive operations, they must manage their schedule and execute tasks with exceptional time management and organization.  Specifically, the H&W Wrangler is in charge of the routine aspects of the Laying Hen operation, including executing daily chores, weekly coop clean out, egg washing and packing, order fulfillment, sawdust bedding collection, and related seasonal tasks. In addition to the Laying Hen operation, the H&W Wrangler oversees our worm herd, and the production and processing of Worm Castings, including feeding, watering, harvesting, drying, screening, order fulfillment, testing and trials. Additionally, the H&W Wrangler supports other farm operations with chores, including opening and closing greenhouse, watering crops and office cleaning, as well as miscellaneous projects and tasks as needed.  This is a physical job often requiring the lifting and movement of substantial weight. Each enterprise on the farm is small and therefore requires the operator be committed to working at a good pace, utilizing existing organizational and operational systems, and focusing on efficiency.
