About NOFA-VT: The Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) is a nonprofit association of farmers, gardeners, and consumers working to promote an economically viable and ecologically sound Vermont food system for the benefit of current and future generations. Our mission is to create a vital Vermont food system – one that supports consumers who want to eat local, organic food year-round, farmers who want technical assistance to be the best stewards of their land and animals, and gardeners who want to grow more of their own food. To achieve our mission, NOFA-VT works on both a statewide and community level to engage our audience. We have developed programs to respond to organizational goals, build relationships between producers and consumers, and advocate for the interests of our audience. Position Description:

Reporting to the Communications Coordinator, the Marketing & Communications Intern will assist in a wide variety of projects and tasks in the office and at outreach events, including:

  • Create and/or contribute to social media campaigns
  • Write blog posts and e-newsletter stories, covering a variety of NOFA-VT’s programs
  • Photograph events, create great captions and online photo galleries
  • Assist with outreach events, including devising engagement strategies, helping with set up and breakdown, and promoting the event
  • Update and cultivate press contacts and other mailing lists
  • Graphic design, including creating infographics and “micro-narratives”
  • Photo archive cataloging

Additionally, the Marketing & Communications Intern will assist Vermont Organic Farmers LLC (VOF), the organic certification program of NOFA-VT, with developing a plan for how to move forward with its current marketing and outreach. We are looking for an individual to help VOF review the current marketing plan and decide what initiatives if any can be worked on in 2017, or whether the development of a new plan is required. VOF is also looking for assistance in evaluating the success of its current marketing initiatives. 

Helpful skills and interests:

  • Interest in, and knack for, creating effective communication materials
  • Proficient computer skills, especially with graphics and data
  • Photography and/or videography
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Enthusiasm for organic and local foods, and farmers
  • Ability to provide your own transportation

Education:

The ideal candidate is interested in food systems, agriculture, public relations, marketing, journalism, and/or nonprofit management and is pursuing a degree in a related field.
