General Job Description
The Agency of Digital Services is looking for a GIS Specialist to assist with mapping needs for the Agency of Agriculture. This position will be involved with turning geospatial data provided by agency staff into maps via various desktop ESRI tools. In addition to the standard desktop tools, this position would take over the care and development of the Agencies online ESRI applications.
This is a professional level position that provides advanced-level GIS services to multiple programs or business units. Primary responsibilities include the performance of advanced GIS tasks, including database development/administration, spatial analysis and GIS application development. A GIS Professional IV must have a solid grasp of skills including the creation, editing, manipulation, maintenance, quality control, and documentation of geospatial data in GIS databases using GIS software.
Other appropriate skills include administering GIS databases within the context of managing a multi-user editing environment; designing topology and spatial relationship database rules; providing user support and training to other GIS staff. This position may be accountable for ensuring and reviewing GIS data integrity, data documentation, and data quality across an agency or department. This position helps to define needs, requirements, and specifications for projects that leverage spatial data or GIS technology. This position provides outreach and training to internal and external creators and users of spatial data as well as to internal users of GIS and GPS technology. This position will operate with a high degree of autonomy and accountability. These duties and services are generally provided across multiple programs and business units. This position may lead or supervise teams. Duties are performed under the direction of a GIS or IT supervisor.

Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, computer science or other closely related field AND two (2) or more years of experience in GIS, geography, computer science, or other closely related field.
Associate's degree or two (2) years of college coursework in GIS, geography, computer science, or other closely related field AND four (4) or more years of experience in in GIS, geography, computer science, or other closely related field.
Six (6) or more years of experience in in GIS, geography, computer science, or other closely related field.
