This is a full-time, hourly position with benefits. The typical schedule is Friday-Tuesday with Wednesday and Thursday off (other weekdays off would work as well).

The ideal candidate would having farming experience, a desire to elevate our poultry operation, an interest in compost, and experience or confidence in their ability to learn how to operate a front-end loader.

Overview: Our poultry operation provides the foundation for our compost. When food scraps are delivered the Livestock Farmer blends them with other raw materials to create a feed pile which we feed our chickens from. When the mass of the feed pile gets large enough it is pulled out of the feeding area and put into windrows to continue the composting process. In addition to managing our flock, and supporting other components of Vermont Compost Company, the livestock farmer is also responsible for this very critical component of our composting operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Blending and handling of inbound food scraps

  • Overseeing all aspects of poultry operation and completing all associated chores - communicating with and training additional staff on any chore updates

  • Managing chicken feed piles

  • Assisting with daily equine chores as requested by Herd Manager

  • Maintaining and utilizing all Biodynamic preps for composting process

  • Assisting Compost Operator as needed

  • Supporting grounds and facilities maintenance
