General Work Experience: Three to five years’ work experience in social marketing and/or project management in Vermont

Education: Degree in social sciences, communications, marketing, public relations, community relations, or related field and/or relevant experience

Description:

Rooted in Vermont is a grassroots movement to increase consumer demand for local food. Rooted in Vermont is shifting the local food narrative on social media and in Vermont communities to be inclusive of the many ways Vermonters enjoy and acquire local food. Traditions like gardening, hunting, fishing, and foraging are as core to Vermont’s local food movement as purchasing local food from farmers, restaurants, schools, and stores. Grassroots marketing efforts targeted towards Vermonters not already committed to purchasing local food will aim to stimulate increased awareness, participation, and purchases in Vermont’s local food economy and help local food consumption become mainstream in the next 5-10 years.

Rooted in Vermont is a project of the Vermont Farm to Plate Network to help reach local food consumption, food literacy, and food access goals of Vermont’s 10-year food system plan (Farm to Plate Strategic Plan). The Farm to Plate Network is coordinated by the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, a non-profit organization based in Montpelier, Vermont whose mission is to nurture the sustainable development of Vermont’s economy.

The Rooted in Vermont Project Manager will be employed by the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund. They will manage the implementation of the Rooted in Vermont grassroots marketing plan by coordinating activities among and between all stakeholders involved in implementing the plan including, the Rooted in Vermont Task Force, Farm to Plate Consumer Education & Marketing Working Group, broader Farm to Plate Network, regional grassroots community organizing teams, and the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as chairperson of the Rooted in Vermont Task Force – comprised of public relations consultants, grassroots community organizers, and outreach staff at local food non-profit organizations/businesses/government/associations. The project manager will work with Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund staff to develop a process to coordinate implementation of marketing plan strategies by the task force.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Task Force and the Consumer Education & Marketing Working Group as well as other key stakeholders in the Farm to Plate Network to facilitate further implementation of specific marketing plan tactics beyond the Task Force members.
  • Develops grassroots community organizing teams and approach per the marketing plan in different regions of Vermont and ensures coordination between statewide implementation tactics and grassroots implementation throughout Vermont.
  • Co-manages the three Rooted in Vermont social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) with the two current social media managers and coordinates all administrative and organizational tasks for effective and efficient social media management. 
  • Works closely with Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund’s Communications Director to coordinate media outreach, support fundraising, and monitor campaign metrics.
  • Manages overall organization of all campaign resources and communication processes for all campaign tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Proven project management experience with both internal and external audiences
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail required
  • Skilled in administrative support and task management functions
  • Motivated, energetic, extroverted and ability to become a statewide cheerleader for the Rooted in Vermont movement
  • Ability to proactively network, cold call, approach people with no introduction, and step outside of comfort zone
  • Strong ability to be creative and flexible while also organized and task oriented
  • Highly skilled in social media management and social marketing
  • Public relations and consumer behavior experience and knowledge
  • Experience working in different regions of Vermont, specifically outside of Chittenden County
  • Understanding of the local food movement and food systems
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently
  • Team player, sense of humor, and positive can-do attitude
  • Personally driven to make a difference
  • Ability to travel around the state and work while on the road or remotely
  • Bonus: experience with InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite
