I offer wild food adventures around Burlington- including edible and medicinal wild plant walks; harvesting, preparing, cooking, and eating wild plant foods together. I also teach herbal first aid, cover survival foods, and invasive weeds that make excellent food and medicine.

Melanie Putz Brotz, RD is a community nutrition educator, herbalist, and wild food guide. She has been leading wild edible and medicinal plant walks in the Burlington area for over 15 years. Melanie's combination of training and work as a registered dietitian, both in research and community settings, and her many years of hands-on learning and teaching in the field of plant based medicine and wild-harvested foods make her workshops rich in practical content, useful and accurate information, and inspiration for budding wild food enthusiasts. Her workshops cover many prolific, non-native/introduced weeds that, although they are sometimes considered a nuisance by farmers, gardeners, and ecologists, are also prime culinary and medicinal plants. Learn about sustainable wild-crafting, plant life-cycles, herbal healing, survival foods, wilderness first aid, preserving the wild harvest, fantastic recipes, and much more. Melanie also offers consultation visits to local farms and homesteads for edible and medicinal wild plant assessments and resource mapping consultations on your land.
