A Fall Look at Cover Crops Field Day: Farr Farms

Richmond, VT

Cover crops are becoming more prevalent throughout Vermont on all farm types and sizes. Join the University of Vermont (UVM) Extension — Northwest Crops and Soils Team (NWCS), Champlain Valley Crop, Soil and Pasture Team (CVCSP), and Vegetable and Berry Program — for a week-long look at cover crops! See, learn, and share information on growing successful cover crops in our northern region.

Join us for one (or all four) of our Cover Crop Field Days! Each field day will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m.; light refreshments will be served. The field days are free but please pre-register at:

This field day is being hosted by CVCSP and Chuck Farr and Ashley Farr and families. Farr Farms is a multi-generational dairy operation; Chuck Farr leads crop production while his son, Ashley, and his family manages the dairy. Here, we will discuss the many opportunities that winter rye, grown as a seed crop, can offer. We will also take a look at large blocks of 8 different combinations of legumes, brassicas and cereal grains and discuss the benefits and challenges of these systems.
