This course will look at growing small fruits in cold regions and how to be successful, from the homestead level to a full-fledged commercial operation. The course emphasizes sustainable and systems wide approaches.
Species will include blueberries, raspberries, currants, gooseberry, brambles, grapes, and a host of others like aronia, elderberry and more.
We will discuss: plant physiology, planting, spacing, soil conditioning, pruning and general culture, pest and disease management, various approaches, from conventional to organic and everything in between, no nonsense assessment of the merits of each species, logical marketing, ealistic expectations from yields to time management
