Farmers: Participate in a 90-minute Decision-Making Exercise Regarding Hayfield Management

23 Mansfield Avenue
Burlington, VT

If you have a hayfield of 10 acres or more, we invite you to participate in an effort to improve payment systems balancing conservation and the environment – like providing wildlife habitat – as a profitable part of your farm business.  Our project highlights habitat for grassland birds like the Bobolink, in hayfields in Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire or Connecticut. We are seeking farmers managing good habitat for breeding bobolinks to participate in an experiment, organized by the researchers of University of Connecticut. Participants will receive $100 to be a part of a 90 minutes discussion testing payment options and auction structures, held at the locations below. If ultimately selected, you may also be eligible to receive actual compensation to manage your hayfield for nesting birds.

What to expect during the sessions:

  • Answer a brief survey of 10 questions
  • Make offers to manage your land for safe nesting of Bobolinks
  • Get feedback on your offer and know what you would have been paid if your offer were accepted
  • Commit 1.5 hours of your time, or less!

Already over 23 farmers have participated and say they enjoyed the experience. We still have room for more!  Please volunteer and get $100 cash to take home.  Contact: or see below.

Space and funding is limited, so sending an rsvp is essential – and sooner is better. If none of the following dates work for you, please contact us and we will try to accommodate you!!
