He is a leader on issues of place, citizen engagement, collective impact and community innovation. The author of four books, including two Canadian best sellers, Paul is internationally recognized for his community-building activities that have won awards from the United Nations and as a Senior Fellow of Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social innovators.

Paul Born grew up in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia as the son of Mennonite refugees. This in part is what made him deeply curious about and engaged in ideas that cause people to work together for the common good, work that he describes as collective altruism. Learn more at

About Tamarack Institute

The Tamarack Institute is a connected force for community change with more than 20,000 members in our learning community. We work with leaders in non-profits, governments, businesses and the community to make the work of advancing positive community change easier and more effective. We do this by teaching and writing about collective impact, community engagement, collaborative leadership, community development, and evaluating community impact. We turn theory into action by connecting people into networks to share and learn together, and we work one-on-one with organizations to help advance their specific agendas.
