Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) FSMA ​Grower ​Training  offered by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture and UVM Extension

$30 ​subsidized workshop ​fee ​includes ​training ​manual, ​meals and Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) certificate (a $130 value). Training certificate satisfies FSMA Produce Safety Rule training requirement.*

Inviting all produce growers to attend a PSA Grower Training! The Vermont Agency of Agriculture and UVM Extension are pleased to offer this hands-on training for produce growers at a subsidized cost. This two-day training provides all you need to know about the FSMA Produce Safety Rule and how it impacts Vermont growers.

Regardless ​of ​scale, annual sales, or market outlets, ​all produce growers can benefit ​from ​learning ​about ​integrating practical produce ​safety ​practices ​on ​a working produce operation! Technical assistance providers, educators and regulators ​will also benefit from this training. 

Whether you are a covered farm fully ​subject ​to ​Produce ​Safety ​Rule ​(PSR) ​regulations or an exempt ​farm ​required ​to ​keep ​certain ​records ​related ​to ​your ​exemption, ​all aspects of PSR compliance ​will ​be ​covered ​during ​this ​training.* Click here to determine whether your farm may be covered or exempt.  

Day One (November 7, 8:30am–5:00pm) will provide an introduction to the FSMA Produce Safety Rule, employee health, hygiene and training requirements, and information about management of soil amendments as well as domesticated animals and wildlife. Includes on-farm exploration to apply concepts in the field.

Day Two (November 8, 8:30am–5:00pm) will cover agricultural water, postharvest handling and sanitation, and writing produce safety plans. ​​Includes on-farm exploration to apply concepts in the field.

FSMA ​​Produce ​​Safety ​​Rule ​​requirements ​​will ​​be ​​outlined ​​within ​​each training ​​module (see below), and the AFDO certificate will verify completion of the standardized training.*​​

The seven Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training Modules are:

  1. Introduction to Produce Safety
  2. Worker Health, Hygiene, and Training
  3. Soil Amendments
  4. Wildlife, Domesticated Animals & Land Use
  5. Agricultural Water – Production Water
  6. Agricultural Water – Post-harvest Water
  7. Postharvest Handling and Sanitation
  8. How to Develop a Farm Food Safety Plan

*This training satisfies ​​the ​​FSMA ​​Produce ​​Safety ​​Rule ​​requirement ​​for ​​growers ​​who ​​are ​​covered ​​by ​​FSMA ​​outlined ​​in ​​§ ​​112.22(c) ​​that ​​requires ​​‘At ​​least ​​one ​​supervisor ​​from ​​the ​​farm ​​must ​​complete ​​food ​​safety ​​training ​​at ​​least ​​equivalent ​​to ​​the ​​standardized ​​curriculum ​​recognized ​​by ​​the ​​FDA’. ​​ ​​The ​​AFDO ​​certificate ​​demonstrates ​​you ​​have ​​met ​​this ​​requirement. 

Morning snacks, lunch and beverages will be provided both days.
