Please join us for the Food Rescue & Donation: Northern Vermont Summit to network and increase your understanding of local food recovery systems. Food insecurity is a serious issue in northern Vermont, and there are many opportunities to become involved. The NEK Food Cycle Coalition – Vermont Foodbank, VT DEC, VT DOH, NVDA, NVRH, VT 211, NEK Council on Aging, and the Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District - are collaborating to create this exciting workshop for food producers, farmers, distributors, retailers, schools, food shelfs, meal sites, and anyone interested in food recovery and donation to:
-Find out what can and cannot be donated,
-Learn about liability protections and tax deductions,
-Network with others working to increase food rescue and find solutions to food insecurity, and
-Hear success stories and ideas for new opportunities or collaborations.
The workshop includes portions of Anthony Bourdain’s film “Wasted! The Story of Food Waste”, and features representatives from the EPA, VT Foodbank, Neighbor-to-Neighbor, Jasper Hill Farm, and Salvation Farms.
This is a free event, space is limited, please register in advance. Walk-ins welcome. For more information, visit www.newmoa.org/events/event.cfm?m=333 or contact Shannon at 802-626-3532.
