The 2021 Vermont Organics Recycling Summit (VORS) will include a variety of virtual events (webinars, facilitated online discussion groups, and other potential activities) celebrating the value of compost and the many ways it supports the health of the environment, the people and the economy.
We are pleased to host this year's VORS in conjunction with International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW).
The 2021 Summit will kick off on Monday May 3rd at 1pm (Eastern), with a State of the State of Organics, followed by the Keynote Speaker, David Montgomery, author of several books including his most recent, Growing a Revolution: Bringing Our Soil Back to Life.
Sessions will be at 10am, 1pm and 3pm throughout the week:
On Tuesday May 4th we'll hear about composting operation successes and lessons learned; dig in to compostable, disposable, and durable products for food services; and learn about opportunities and challenges in diverting organics at multi-family housing complexes.
On Wednesday May 5th we'll learn about how on-farm composting is helping communities close the nutrient loop; composting and heat recovery initiative of the VT Phosphorus Innovation Challenge; and compost fertility characteristics resulting from different systems.
Thursday May 6th will provide a deep-dive into compost BMPs for erosion and sediment control practices; diversion options within Chittenden County; and zoning challenges for compost entrepreneurs.
The VORS program wraps up on Friday May 7th with a session on engaging a new generation of compost managers; and a Haulers' Roundtable (open to everyone).
At 3pm every day (Monday-Friday) we'll have a virtual tour of an organics management site, followed by Q&A.
Program details are available at compostingvermont.org/vors-2021
Registering will get you links to all of the sessions. All sessions will be recorded and posted on the CAV website after the event. All educational events at VORS will qualify for Professional Development Hours from the US Composting Council.
