Trialing Urine Fertilizer on New Crops: An On-Farm Field Day with the Rich Earth Institute

Hubbard CBD 131 Kim Hubbard Road Putney, VT 05346
Putney, VT

Join Rich Earth Institute at a farm field day to learn about some of our current research investigating the reclamation of human urine for use in agriculture! In this project, funded by the USDA's Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program, we collaborated with five farm partners to explore different methods for applying urine fertilizer to a variety of crops: flowers, fig trees, sweet corn, hemp, and hay. We trialed both hand and tractor application methods for row crops and drip fertigation for other crops. We also conducted a controlled experiment at our Research Center comparing methods for fertigation--combining urine fertilizer and water to use in drip irrigation systems.

The field day will be hosted at Hubbard CBD, where you can see the results of urine fertilization on their hemp crop. We will summarize what we've learned so far from our farm collaborations and lab research and hear from the farm partners about their observations and experiences.
