The Skinny Pancake and Higher Ground Present the first annual EAT X NE (Eat By Northeast) Local Food Festival taking place on the weekend of the fall equinox, Friday, September 19th, Saturday, September 20th, and Sunday, September 21st 2014 at Burlington’s Oakledge Park. Eat X NE will strengthen Vermont’s local food movement by welcoming the entire community to a free, all-ages festival that aims to raise over $20,000 in donations to local food non-profits, educates entrepreneurs, families and gardeners on the business, preparation and cultivation of local food and celebrates our vibrant culinary tradition through fun gatherings at the peak of our abundant harvest. The celebration will include free music by The Felice Brothers, Hug Your Farmer All-Star Band, Dan Zanes and more!
“Vermont is a leader in the local food movement and it’s time we had a marquee event to celebrate that. At the Skinny Pancake, we are on a mission to make local food affordable and obtainable to all. What we strive to do with EAT X NE is not only to celebrate our local food culture through food, drinks, and music, but also to make it stronger by helping new people learn about and participate in the local food movement… The event breaks down into 4 categories: Eat, Drink, Listen and Learn.” –Benjy Adler

Tracks are Grow, Create & Sell. "Create" will focus on food demonstrations and hands-on lessons on how to use local food to create delicious meals efficiently and affordably. "Grow" will feature over 10 sessions on gardening, edible landscapes, and more. "Sell" is a business track that will focus on local food entrepreneurship." This opportunity to present the Create education component at EAT x NE helps bring free and accessible local food education to the greater community,” says Eric Lampman, Director of R&D at Lake Champlain Chocolates. “The Local Food Supergroup which includes reps from ECHO, NOFA, FEED, Intervale, Slow Food VT, VT Community Garden Network, City Market, Healthy Living, Skinny Pancake and South End Kitchen, is putting together curriculum that can really inspire people to make healthy, local food choices while learning from food leaders.
