Who We Are

Headquartered in Brattleboro, VT, Food Connects is a dynamic, food-systems focused

non-profit organization with strong roots in the community and two flagship programs. Our Food

Hub (FH) delivers locally and regionally produced foods to co-ops, markets, schools, hospitals,

and more. We build strong relationships with schools, working in partnership to transform the

food system. The Farm to School (FTS) program supports school implementation of food, farm,

and nutrition education, strengthening their school nutrition programs.

In Search Of

Are you passionate about local food and about the vision of New England feeding New England?

Do you want to work for an organization with a clear social mission? Do you believe in the

importance of supporting regional producers and helping them access wholesale markets? Do

you like driving, being out in your community, and working directly with those growing and

purchasing regionally produced products? Do you want meaningful, rewarding work supporting

our local agricultural economy while also ensuring access to nutritious food for local youth?

Then this job is for you!

What You Will Do

In this position, you will serve on the Food Hub Operations Team. You’ll deliver regionally

produced food across the FH’s quickly growing service area encompassing much of Vermont,

New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Your work, along with that of your driver colleagues at

FC, will ensure the safe, timely, undamaged pickup, and delivery of all Food Hub products. That

work is essential to Food Connects’ goal to build an alternative food supply chain to help New

England feed New England. You will be an important public face for FC in the community, a

representative that our customers and producers will come to know by face and name.

Experience and Knowledge Needed

This position requires an organized individual who is excited about driving, safely transporting

local and regional foods, and being a part of reinventing local food systems. You should be

efficient and able to work well on your own, as you will have lots of solo time on the road, but

also be open to learning and working alongside the rest of the FH Operations team. Experience

driving large delivery vans, box trucks/straight trucks or other comparably-sized vehicles is

required. You will be delivering food throughout a wide New England service area, and therefore

must be comfortable driving in inclement weather conditions. A CDL license is not required, but

all applicants must be 21 years of age or older to drive our DOT registered vehicles, and must

have a driving record free of serious infractions over the past three years. Please note that

applicant’s driving records will be pulled and reviewed as part of the onboarding process.

The right candidate will be skilled at:

● Technical Expertise: Familiarity and confidence driving large vehicles, box delivery

trucks, or other comparably-sized vehicles.

● Attention to Communication: The ability to ensure that information is passed on to

others who should be kept informed.

● Balancing Team and Individual Needs: Ability to work cohesively within a team

environment while independently managing one’s own duties and responsibilities.

● Forward Thinking: The ability to anticipate the implications and consequences of

situations and take appropriate action to be prepared for possible contingencies.

● Flexibility: Openness to different and new ways of doing things, willingness to modify

one’s preferred way of doing things.

You will need reliable transportation to our facility in Brattleboro, VT and must have a reliable

cell phone. Once fully trained on your assigned routes, your weekly route schedule will be

consistent with the opportunity to pick up extra shifts, or swap shifts with other drivers as

available. There may be occasional meetings and events on evenings and weekends, with plenty

of advance notice.
