Diana McCargo is a chef, gardener, artist, and producer. She is the inspiration for and co-owner of Philo Ridge Farm [www.philoridgefarm.com], a beautiful, productive, diversified farm at the forefront of innovation and conversation around our food. Philo Ridge Farm supports farmers and the local economy while managing its natural resources with a holistic and lasting system of regenerative agriculture, research, education, and inspiration.

Diana provides guidance to the staff and high-level vision for Philo Ridge Farm’s food, farm and market, where the farm’s produce and meat, local crafts, and other products are sold.  Diana is also the chief curator of the aesthetic of Philo Ridge Farm.

Position Overview:

Diana is seeking a full time Assistant to provide administrative and personal support to her in the everyday management of her life and her home farm at Lilac Ridge, as well as in her role at Philo Ridge Farm and Market.  The Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support, arranging travel and correspondence, scheduling meetings, running business and personal errands, and generally ensuring the seamless execution of Diana’s business and personal matters.

With the Market at Philo Ridge Farm heading into its second year of operations, Diana is focused on supporting Philo Ridge Farm to continue to grow as a community platform and gathering space for conversations around local food and farmers. Diana seeks an Assistant who is excited to support her in this endeavor, and who can help her expand her impact. In addition, Diana is writing a cookbook and seeks assistance in coordinating this process. 

The ideal candidate has experience as an assistant and is familiar with farming, gardening, and cooking.  We are seeking a candidate with great interpersonal and communication skills, who is also detail-oriented, resourceful, and a proactive thinker.  This person should have a knowledge of, enjoyment in, and familiarity with design and aesthetics.  This position will be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Diana’s schedule, including scheduling travel, conferences, and organizing appointments. Prepare daily schedule briefings.
  • Manage Diana’s Philo Ridge Farm e-mails, and organize meetings with Philo Ridge Farm staff. Support Diana in preparing materials ahead of these meetings, take notes during the meetings, and support follow-up and next steps afterwards.
  • Coordinate and prepare in person and phone-in meetings for Diana.
  • Help Diana with her execution and curation of the aesthetic and design at Philo Ridge.
  • Write business and personal notes, emails and letters on behalf of Diana.
  • Prepare responses to routine memos, letters, and correspondences.
  • Organize and maintain Diana’s office, including managing her filing system.
  • Responsible for personal tasks as assigned, including running personal errands and coordinating personal vendors and home property caretakers, etc.
  • Provide Diana with technological support.
  • Other tasks assigned as needed and requested.

  • Floral arrangement and design
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher a plus
  • Proficiency with technology and social media
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Excellent administrative / supportive skills
  • Excellent writing skills – handwriting, grammar, composition
  • Quick, proactive and independent thinker, able to be resourceful and adaptable under pressure
  • Ability to be assertive and direct when called for
  • Strong time management skills
  • High level of discretion and diplomacy in all professional interactions
  • Comfortable in work boots, a kitchen apron, or sitting at a desk
  • Clean driving record

Compensation:

Compensation will be commensurate with skills and experience.
