Herd Manager (Vermont Compost Company)

The primary responsibility of the Herd Manager is to further develop the training and breeding program and to provide all necessary care for our American Mammoth Donkeys.  There is frequent collaboration with our Poultry Farmer and covering chicken chores 2-3 days a week will be a secondary responsibility. This is a great opportunity to further develop one's skillset while maintaining a relationship with a practice and a breed that are underutilized in modern day agriculture.


Specific duties will include but are not limited to:

  • General care for all equines and associated chores

  • Maintenance and care for all related equipment, harnesses, fences, etcetera

  • Collaboration with ownership on care and training techniques

  • Coordinate veterinarian visits as needed

  • Collaboration with Poultry Farmer, who will be covering equines chores when the Herd Manager is not present and vise versa

  • Complete chicken chores 2-3 days per week

  • Develop and implement training schedules for equines

  • Work with General Manager on any outstanding site or maintenance issues


Requirements: experience handling and driving equines, a positive attitude and ability to adapt to a changing environment.
