Food Safety Modernization Act Affect on Aggregators & Distributors

The Aggregation and Distribution Working Group spent much of 2015 learning from stakeholders across Vermont. Our meetings last year included tours and visits, as well as panels of supply chain partners - such as Upper Valley Produce, Vermont Roots, Farmers to You, Deep Root Organic Cooperative, Black River Produce, and more.

Now, in 2016, we have focused in on a few specific topics to explore throughout the year. The first is the Food Safety Modernization Act, and how it will affect the aggregators, distributors, deliveries and shared-use infrastructure that our Working Group has sought to promote, expand or assist. In our April 2016 meeting, we visited with Kristina Sweet from VAAFM, Hans Estrin from UVM Extension and Sophia Kruszewski, a policy specialist from the National Sustainable Agriculture Council. Each of these experts were asked about how FSMA might affect the 'middle' of the supply chain, and the notes from April are available here
