Governor's Institute

The Governor's Institute Task Force worked with the Governor's Institute of Vermont (GIV) to create the first summer institute on food systems. The inaugural week-long institute was held in summer 2013 at Vermont Technical College for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students learned about the many aspects of Vermont's food system through a combination of hands-on experiences and classrooom learning from food system scholars and professionals.  The second GIV Farms, Food and Your Future institute was funded and held in the summer of 2014. The plan now is to hold the institute every other year. Molly Willard from Vermont Technical College is chair of this task force and is the GIV Farms, Food and Your Future institute director.

December 2015 Update: The Governor's Institue decided not to fund a food-related institute this year. Thefore, this task force will be closed. In 2016 the Education & Workforce Development Working Group will be discussing new ways to develop summer learning opportunities for high school age students.
