Lindsey spent seven years in marketing, advertising and PR in the private sector, and in 2011 escaped the cubicles of New York City to found herself nestled in the vines of Mendoza’s wine country as a harvest intern. What was meant to be a five month hiatus became a four year journey around Latin America, Australia and New Zealand. A life-changing role at a Peruvian disaster relief organization convinced Lindsey to continue working in the non-profit sector, and a few stints with a Guatemalan coffee cooperative, an Australian organic farm and various WWOOFing properties, locked her into the good food movement for good. Lindsey and her partner Matthew founded a food education tourism project, Origins of Food, that reconnects people with where food comes from.

Happy Bird Poultry Farm, LLC started as two couples growing their own chicken. One year we (The Boyles) gave some of our homegrown chicken as gifts for Christmas and WOW! It was popular so we grew more and more each year. Then we added the smokehouse and farm market. We now offer a diverse variety of local food and non food items for sale. Our chicken is still grown here on the farm and is now (as of 2017) processed by us in our on farm VT Department of Agriculture inspected poultry processing plant. We aren't a deli or restaurant but we do offer some awesome foods for you to take home and share with family and friends. Real smoke, real flavor, low and slow!

Born and raised in Randolph, Vermont, I attended Bates College in Lewiston, ME ('11), earning a bachelor's degree in psychology/neuroscience and completing a pre-medical curriculum. After graduation I moved back to Vermont and worked at newly-established Richmond Family Medicine, where I gained valuable exposure to the practice of clinical medicine. Yet, instead of pursuing medical school, my longstanding passion for public health, nutrition and food led me to explore relevant graduate programs at the University of Vermont, and in the fall of 2012 I became part of the inaugural class of the Food Systems Graduate Program. I am currently entering my second and final year of the program, taking courses across several disciplines, completing a thesis research project, and working as both a teaching assistant and research assistant.

Growing up in the woods and fields of Vermont, I aspired to run my own farm one day where youth could enjoy the quiet yet intensely informative open spaces, relationships with animals and responsibility learned from their care. Sentinel Farms in Starksboro, VT raises the highest quality grass fed & grass finished Red Angus,Hereford Beef with similar levels of Omega-3's as wild salmon yet without the heavy metals. Sentinel Farms is a cross pollinating integrative learning center where youngsters find the time and space to develop relationships with nature, the family of farm animals and a health-focused community while integrating science and math into abundant opportunities to learn and practice problem-solving and teambuilding skills. Internships are available for all ages. Group field trips, week long summer programs, after school programs and one on one counseling keep the working farm campus hopping and healthy. Sentinel Farms is open every Wednesday from noon to six serving Sentinel Farms Hot Beef Sandwich meals which helps raise funds to support the scholarships provided to all youth in need. At Sentinel Farms you can buy your healthy, single source beef direct. When you take part in the Wednesday Public Feed you're going from farm to plate all in one spot while supporting the healthy maturation of our growing generation of rural youth. Don't forget the Honey and Maple Syrup! Sentinel Farms offers therapeutic farm and horse experiences within a beautiful rolling farm atmosphere to fit the unique needs of an individual or a working group.

Joan Marie is the District Director for the Vermont Department of Health's Barre District Office. Prior to working in public health, Joan Marie spent two decades providing humanitarian assistance, education, and program management in Latin America, Africa, and rural and urban America, including managing a statewide AmeriCorps program that addressed affordable housing and land conservation issues in Vermont. Along the way, she volunteered and conducted research on fair trade coffee farms to promote increased economic, environmental, and health justice for producer communities within fair and alternative trade models. Joan Marie received her MS in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition with a focus on Nutrition Interventions in Public Health at Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. She is driven to create a healthier culture by changing the environments where we spend a great deal of time, including the places where we nourish ourselves- schools, workplaces, homes, community gathering sites, grocery stores, and media- so that healthy living is easy. She lives in Marshfield.

Tigertown Farm is an off-grid, experimental homestead developing low cost and low energy input strategies for regenerating a tired piece of land in our Vermont landscape. Through permaculture system design, building with reclaimed construction materials, and agro-ecological farming practices, we seek to relearn how to live and sustain ourselves within a greater working ecosystem. Our enterprises include Tigertown Compost, which annually diverts tens of thousands of pounds of restaurant organic material from landfills each year and doesn't stop there. We aim at achieving highest use from all materials put through our system- feeding pigs, chickens, fungi and the soil! Additionally, nearly all of our and our guests' diet comes from our farm and woodlands. Specifically, from foraging, hunting, raising heritage pigs and birds, organic culinary mushroom production, the biodynamic orchards, sugar bush as well as a diverse and resilient rotation of annual veggies which share our 30 acre farm. We are 100% off grid, which means we source all of our own water, and electricity from our gravity well and solar panel array. We offer free room and board homestead immersion experiences to travelers from around the globe.

Gratitude Farms is a small, market garden styled operation in Northfield. Although not certified yet, we are a biodynamic farm, making some of our own biodynamic preparations and compost. We produce soil grown wheatgrass and a variety of microgreens year round. In season we will be growing a variety of greens (ex., mixed salad greens, some Asian greens, Kale, Arugula, etc.), Ginger & Tumeric, Carrots, Radish and Tomatoes. We are participating in a University of Burlington pilot program to grow Saffron in Vermont as well (currently growing 400 Saffron corms). We are always happy to connect our produce to more chefs and retail markets. We can also be found at the Montpelier Farmer's Market.

Allie Perline
allie.perlineREMOVETHISBEFORESENDING@vycc.org
Growing up playing in the Green Mountains, Allie developed a deep love for the natural world that surrounds and supports us. A degree in Wellness and Alternative Medicine and graduate work in Community Health further built on this love of the outdoors and fostered a great interest in holistic, sustainable models of health. Furthermore, it instilled in her an appreciation for the impact that food has on our sense of place, health, and community. Allie has experience in community health outreach and the facilitation of community coalitions and health initiatives using collective impact. She enjoys the challenge of thinking creatively and outside the box to support collaborative approaches to long lasting, sustainable change. The programs at VYCC embody the work that Allie is so passionate about and she is excited to be part of the team. Allie’s appreciation has grown tremendously for the working landscape and the diverse and vibrant community that is Vermont, and looks forward to better connecting with her home state through the work that takes place at the beautiful space of the Farm at VYCC.
