Food Connects' Mission is to cultivate healthy farm and food connections in classrooms, cafeterias and communities. Food Connects' Goals are to: 1. Ensure the growth and sustainability of Farm to School programming in and around Windham County, Vermont. 2. Increase direct sales by developing new markets for locally produced food. 3. Support the development of local food aggregation and distribution systems.

Show Bio
Richard is the co-founder and Executive Director of Food Connects. He has been leading food system development work in the Windham County area since 2008. Richard holds a M.A. from SIT Graduate Institute in Sustainable Development with a focus on Food Security for Vermont, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Marlboro College Graduate School. Berkfield was named one of Vermont’s Rising Stars by Vermont Business Magazine in 2014. He and his family enjoy growing and preparing as much of their own food as possible, though as work demands increase, he better understand the saying that "The cobbler’s children have no shoes."

Katherine Jandernoa is Food Connects' Farm to School Program Manager and Co-Founder. She works closely with food service professionals, teachers, and school families to integrate local foods into the cafeteria, educate students about healthy eating habits, and embed farm to school activities into the school and community culture. She supports her colleagues on a number of Food Connects' initiatives including the Neighborhood Market, Local Food Buying Clubs, and Vermont Harvest of the Month. Although her current focus is working to strengthen local food systems, Katherine holds a Masters degree in Sustainable Development and has worked in the renewable energy and public health fields.

Allyson is the marketing and communications coordinator for Food Connects in Brattleboro. Her work includes raising the profile of the organization as a whole and that of individual programs, including Farm to School, Windham Farm and Food, and the School Harvest Farm. She has been interested in food as long as she can remember, and is always thinking about, digging in, or weeding her garden.
