Agency of Ag & Food Export Northeast Will Hold Canadian Export Seminar for VT Food Producers

The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets, in collaboration with Food Export Northeast, will host “Tapping into the Canadian Market,” an export seminar for food and agriculture businesses, on Thursday November 20th at the Courtyard Marriott in Burlington.

The cost to attend this event is $50 per participant and includes lunch and a full day of exporter education, followed by individual one-on-one meeting session with expert consultants.

Canada is the second largest export market for U.S agricultural products and accounts for 15 percent of total U.S exports. Moreover, two-way agricultural trade between the U.S. and Canada is the most robust in the world, totaling over $51 billion in 2012.

The purpose of the export seminar is to encourage the export of Vermont agricultural products to Canada and assist local businesses with their international marketing needs.

Seminar participants will:

  • Review Canadian packaging and labeling requirements

  • Learn about Free Trade Agreement Resources

  • Gain understanding of the Harmonized System, the standardized classification system for internationally traded products

Export consultants Dennis Lynch and Kathy Boyce will be leading the seminar. Lynch is a 34-year veteran of international trade who has held a variety of positions in the public and private sectors. He provides customized technical export assistance to a variety of food and agricultural firms. Boyce has over 25 years of experience in the food industry at Procter & Gamble and has managed her own marketing consultant business for the past 15 years. She executes trade relations outreach initiatives including management of buyer trade missions, match making services between buyers and sellers and also specializes in government relations, import regulations (including packaging and label requirements) and provides customized market research.
