Vermont Farmstand to Open at Boston Public Market
After over a year of research and development, the Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets (AAFM) and Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) are pleased to announce the creation of a Vermont retail stand within the Boston Public Market, opening next month. Harlow Farm of Westminster, VT will operate the stand, demonstrating an innovative public-private partnership that will open a new market channel for dozens of Vermont companies in the Boston metro region. The Brattleboro Area Farmers’ Market has successfully finished a $58,000 fundraising campaign to help with the acquisition and redevelopment of the former Planet Gas station parcel on Route 9. Farm and Food Student Leaders to Arrive in Vermont for Whirlwind Study Tour
Leaders from across the nation who are studying how communities source, grow, process, purchase, and contemplate food will soon arrive in the Green Mountain State for the inaugural three-week Vermont Food Systems Summer Study Tour, May 31 – June 20. One of the only study tours of its kind in the world, students will earn transferable credits while accessing a “movable feast” of Vermont food systems education. Read More
The Working Lands Enterprise Initiative Announces over $1 Million in Grants to 36 Vermont Businesses and Service Providers
Today, the Working Lands Enterprise Board announced this year’s 36 grant recipients – 24 agriculture and 12 forestry projects – for just over $1 million in both Working Lands and Local Food Market Development grant funding. These projects impact every county in Vermont, and leverage an additional $1.8 million in matching funds. Investments were made to 26 working lands enterprises and 10 service providers for projects that increase production, expand markets, develop innovative technologies, improve water quality, and train the workforce that Vermont’s businesses need to succeed. Vermont and New Hampshire Farmers Encouraged to Apply for Value-Added Producer Grants …Agricultural Producers Eligible for $250,000 In Grants
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking farmers and producers interested in turning their agricultural commodities into new products. The USDA Rural Development Value-Added Producer Grant program provides farmers with up to $250,000 in working capital or feasibility funding to turn raw agricultural products into finished products that increase producer profitability and create jobs. The deadline for grant submissions is July 7th. Read More
