City Market Releases FY 2014 Annual Report

Burlington, VT – City Market has released their FY 2014 Annual Report, covering July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.  The report provides details regarding FY 2014 Co-op Membership, Co-op Financial Health, Community Initiatives, Patronage Refunds, Local Food Systems, and Sustainability.  The report is published online and can be found on City Market’s website.

“The numbers shared in the FY 2014 Annual Report tell a positive story for City Market,” said Pat Burns, General Manager.  “We’re pleased to show that our Membership is growing, that we were able to return almost $1 million in profits to our Members, and to share all that we’ve accomplished working with our amazing community partners this past year. All of this is made possible by the support of over 10,000 Members who own our Co-op and over 200 staff members who keep us running smoothly and offer great service.”

As the number one single store food co-op in the United States in terms of sales, City Market recognized over $38 million in sales during FY 2014, 36% of which was from local products. Co-op Membership increased 12% over the previous year to over 10,200 Members, with Member sales making up over 65% of total Co-op sales.  Over 1,100 people participated in the Co-op’s Food for All program (a program that gives a 10% discount to individuals who qualify for 3SquaresVT, WIC, or Social Security Disability/Supplemental Income).  Member Workers volunteered over 20,200 hours, over 58% of which were with Community Partners.

The Co-op hosted 155 classes in FY 2014, which attracted more than 1,600 class attendees for topics ranging from lacto-fermentation to homemade salves and oils. Throughout the year, the Co-op partnered with a number of community organizations, including Burlington School Food Project, Hunger Free Vermont, Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Burlington, Intervale Center, Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf, NOFA-VT, and the Burlington Winter Farmers’ Market.
