approx. 20 hours per week

Our barista will have a good understanding of customer service, work well with a team, be open to feedback, be familiar with espresso and coffee brewing, and truly love coffee. This position is very guest forward; connecting with each guest and embracing the community that supports the farm is the main goal of the barista. It is not only about serving up delicious coffee. The ideal candidate for this position will have a service-minded attitude, a friendly demeanor, and a strong interest in food, cooking, and local, organic agriculture. Our barista position is also part of the farmstand team and is expected to offer support when the cafe is slow and all other cafe duties are in line.

Must be available to work Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.

Responsibilities

General duties include:

  • Greeting guests and making them feel welcome
  • Helping guests locate items, staff and workshops
  • Assist guests with navigating online sign ups
  • Answering questions about the products we sell, our growing practices, CSA, education programs, and farm policies. Directing guests to other departments or administrative staff to get their questions answered in a timely manner.
  • Ringing up guests, processing payments, and filing CSA paperwork.
  • Following food safety protocols
  • Maintaining a clean and presentable workspace
  • Work as a team

Hello Café duties include:

  • Providing exceptional service to our guests and making a genuine connection
  • Preparing hot and cold coffee and espresso drinks, teas and lemonades
  • Setting up the next shift for success
  • Making batched recipes
  • Stay calm under pressure
  • Basic Barista flow; find grind, pull a shot accurately, steam milk properly
  • Be knowledgeable on our baked goods, serve them as needed
  • Communicating with the Farm Kitchen to keep baked goods stocked
  • Stocking and keeping track of inventory

Farmstand assisting duties include:

  • Setting up, breaking down, and restocking produce displays
  • Receiving and stocking merchandise
  • Moving large amounts of produce from building to building
  • Culling & investigating to ensure we have top quality produce
  • Assisting guests with CSA signups. Setting up and adding value to CSA Cards, with the help of Leads and Farm Retail Manager.
  • Answering the phone, distributing messages, transferring calls, checking messages

Qualifications

Prior customer service, barista, or retail experience is a plus but not required. Applicants should be excellent communicators, possess strong attention to detail, and be able to operate a cash register, do simple math, and make change. All applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and be comfortable spending a full shift on their feet.

Applicants must be able to work weekends. Must be able to work morning shifts (7am-3pm) and at least 1 weekend shift. Please notify us of all planned vacations in your application.

Our espresso machine is a classic Astoria Rapallo with lever groups and a steam boiler. This creates a great opportunity to put on a show while slinging shots!

Compensation and Benefits

This is a seasonal position, 20 hours per week from August through the end of October

It is an hourly position with benefits including sick time accrual, fresh produce, and a discount to our farmstand. 

Salary is $14-17/hr depending on work experience. In this position, cash tips are distributed at the end of the shift. Credit card tips are calculated by hours spent in the cafe, distributed amongst any additional help, then added to your paycheck. Credit card tips range from $3/hour to $14/hr depending on the day, how busy we are, and how good the service is.
