Position Summary: The LAOB Executive Assistant role is an exciting opportunity to be a backbone support for work impacting housing opportunity and access in Vermont. This position will support all the staff, including the Co-Directors by holding the core administrative functions of the organization. These core functions include board coordination, communication support, event logistics and planning, and financial administration. The Executive Assistant will also ensure the physical office space is organized to create a productive working environment.

Our Team- The Land Access and Opportunity Board hired its first staff, Co-Directors Jean Myung Hamilton and Ornella Matta-Figueroa, in 2024. It’s an independent state board tasked with improving housing and land access for all marginalized populations. See sunrise report here and the law as written here.

The LAOB (Land Access and Opportunity Board) is a growing organization. This is a new role and would work well for someone excited to help develop and maintain internal organization systems and processes.

The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board (VHCB) is the administrative home for the LAOB. While all work under this position is directed by and in support of the LAOB, VHCB acts as the direct employer.

Primary Responsibilities of this position include: Board Support - Ensuring compliance with Vermont's Open Meeting Law and providing administrative and communication assistance to the board; Staff Administrative Support - Handling financial tasks, event logistics, communications, and maintaining organizational systems for LAOB staff; and Office Coordination - Managing office equipment, supplies, and mail.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to read and discern written errors on paper and electronic documents
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software and aptitude for learning new software and technology
  • Ability to adapt, create, and thrive within highly changing conditions
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Highly organized file management skills to maintain organized records and documents
  • Ability to sense and support team needs


Bonus Qualifications

  • Understanding of and connections to Vermont communities and systems or experience working in other rural communities
  • Experience with social media communications and posting
  • Ability to travel and support events across the state


Work Conditions: This position requires the ability to work at a computer for 8 hours per day. Also requires frequent communication with others, including hearing and speaking clearly with adults. Compensation and Benefits

$67,000 - $72,000 commensurate with experience. Excellent comprehensive benefits package including generous health care plan, dental and vision coverage, Life Insurance, Long and Short-term disability insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, Employee Assistance Program, and more.
