Join the Vermont Foodbank as an Operations Associate – Driver and help bring food, hope and connection to Vermont communities. We’re seeking a dependable, safety-focused driver who wants more than a job — you want a mission.

What you’ll do:

  • Safely operate Foodbank vehicles across Vermont, local routes, home daily.
  • Load/unload, distribute food product, work with volunteers + staff to deliver service.
  • Engage with community members of diverse backgrounds — your role matters.
  • Support warehouse logistics: product storage, equipment movement, food reclamation.
  • Collaborate with Warehouse, Facilities and Community Impact teams.

What we’re looking for:

  • Comfortable with lifting, loading, physical tasks.
  • Strong communicator, team player,  self-motivated and safe.
  • Passion for community service, willingness to interact respectfully with our clientele.
  • Willingness/ability to get Commercial Driver’s License within 3-6 months of hire date. Costs of driving school would be covered by the Vermont Foodbank.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively and be able to communicate with staff and volunteers to support the mission of the Foodbank to meet and sustain Foodbank goals.
  • Positively contribute to an organizational culture of safe and secure food handling, warehousing and distribution.
  • The Foodbank relies on volunteers every day to fulfill our mission. All Foodbank employees must support our culture of philanthropy by treating every volunteer with appreciation and respect.
  • Insure the proper sanitary and safe warehousing of all products in accordance with Feeding America and Vermont Foodbank guidelines.
  • Efficiently and safely pick up and deliver products as assigned
  • Complete appropriate paperwork to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Assist with warehouse operations as necessary including, but not limited to; picking orders, agency pick-ups, receiving, and sort room activities
  • Maintain vehicles in a high state of cleanliness.
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance, professionalism in all interactions with other staff, the public, and the participants the Foodbank serves.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures in the fleet safety booklet regarding reporting accidents, daily vehicle checks, completing associated paperwork, substance abuse, and more.
  • Collaborate with warehouse team to determine incoming and outgoing inventory.
  • Take part during physical inventory.
  • In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, Vermont Foodbank is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all of its employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.

 

Other Functions:

  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Attend Organizational learning days and other meetings as appropriate
     

Skills/Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities an individual needs in order to perform this job successfully. 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience in driving large straight/semi-trucks in a food-related industry, preferred.  
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent skills preferred.
  • Experience in the use of material handling equipment.   
  • Customer service experience a plus
  • CDL must be obtained within 3–6 months of hire. Costs of driving school to be covered by the Vermont Foodbank.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Flexible hours required.
  • Organized with an attention to detail
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift a minimum of 45 pounds.  

 

Language Skills:

  • Experience communicating effectively with diverse groups of people

 

Technical/Computer Skills:

· Basic telephone & computer skills. 

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:

  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • 3-year motor vehicle report (MVR) showing a clean driving record.
  • Satisfactory background check
  • CDL must be obtained within 3–6 months of hire date. Costs of driving school to be covered by the Vermont Foodbank.

 

Degree/ Education

  • Experience in driving large straight/semi-trucks in a food-related industry, material handling equipment, Customer service, or related experience preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent skills required. 

 

Organizational impact

  • Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Full-time, in-person role based in Barre, VT.
  • Salary: $53,570 – $58,589/year. (starting at lower end)
