Overview

Community Harvest of Central Vermont (CHCV), Central Vermont's gleaning organization for the past decade, is hiring to fill our Program Operation and Data Manager position. CHCV brings the community together through gleaning to recover surplus food produced on area farms to feed those with limited access to healthy, fresh local food, and in the process, helps the community to gain a greater awareness and appreciation of the local food system, healthy eating, and waste reduction. This position will work closely with CHCV’s Executive Director, other staff, and volunteers to recover and distribute food to our recipient site partners, maintain our facilities, and manage data processes, analyses, and reporting.

The successful candidate will be extremely organized and tidy with an attention to detail, be outgoing and personable, a good problem solver, resourceful, comfortable taking direction, able to think on their feet and to contribute in a fast-paced workplace. Some building maintenance/upkeep experience would be helpful.

This is a full-time 32 to 40 hours position with a somewhat flexible schedule and occasional weekends and evenings needed. A majority of the work is in-person, however a small part could be done remotely. 

Demonstrated Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to follow and internalize specific instructions and processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess an understanding and appreciation of the local food system, healthy eating, and waste reduction.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of audiences in various settings both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite software, including Excel, and experience with pivot tables. Demonstrated skill in creating documents, spreadsheets, and organizing records and data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local produce and requirements for food handling and storage.
  • Ability to drive a pickup truck and a mid-size cargo van.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year supervising or coordinating the activities of others.
  • Valid US driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation required.

Location and Physical Requirements

  • Most of the work will take place at our facilities in Berlin, VT, and around Central Vermont, with the opportunity for a small amount of remote work.
  • This position is physically demanding and requires manual labor. Must be able to repeatedly lift 50+ pounds as well as frequent bending, twisting, and squatting. In addition, the ability to work on uneven surfaces and a variety of terrain is essential.
  • The role involves regular outdoor work in unprotected environments and extended exposure to a range of weather conditions.

Competitive hourly compensation ranging from. $20 to $24 per hour to start, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include generous paid combined time off, and 12 floating holidays per year.
