Cellars at Jasper Hill awarded Best in Show at 2013 American Cheese Society Competition

The Cellars at Jasper Hill has been awarded the prestigious Best in Show by the American Cheese Society (ACS) at the annual competition awards ceremony held this past Friday evening, August 2, 2013 in Madison, Wisconsin. Several other Vermont Cheesemakers also took home awards. 

The ACS competition celebrated its 30th anniversary this year with a record number of entries; 1,794 products were entered by 257 companies into 92 categories. In each category, a first, second and third place ribbon are awarded. To determine Best of Show, all blue ribbon winners enter a final round of judging, and three overall winners are chosen.

Winnimere won its Blue Ribbon in the Farmstead category, which is limited to cheeses “…made with milk from herds on the farm where the cheeses are produced.” The subcategory was Open Class, Semi-soft, Cow’s milk, aged over 60 days. 

Cellars at Jasper Hill also took home blue ribbons for their ‘Cabot Clothbound’ and ‘Willoughby’ as well as a second place ribbon for ‘Landaff’ and a third place ribbon for ‘Harbison.’ Vermont cheesemakers represent 27 total ribbons between the following other companies: Vermont Butter and Cheese Creamery, Springbrook Farm, Maplebrook Farm, Consider Bardwell Farm, Boston Post Dairy, Franklin Foods,  Shelburne Farms, Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and Grafton Village Cheese with a Second Place overall win for ‘Bear Hill’.
