Intervale Center Farms Program Accepting Applications for 2014

The Intervale Center in accepting applications for the Farms Program in 2014. Applications are due by May 31, 2013.

The Intervale Center manages 350 acres of farmland, trails, and wildlife corridors in the heart of Burlington, Vermont. Through the Farms Program, they lease land, equipment, greenhouses, irrigation and storage facilities to small independent farms. Each year, these farms produce fresh produce on 135 acres of land and contribute 60 full-time, part-time and seasonal jobs to the Burlington economy.

The Farms Program removes start-up barriers that typically challenge new farmers:

  • Access to training, land, capital and markets;
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance;
  • Isolation Each year, between one and three new farm businesses join the program as incubators, receiving subsidized rental rates, business planning support and mentorship from established growers.
