My husband Michael opened Commodities Natural Market in New York City's East Village Commodities Natural Market in the East Village neighborhood in New York City in 1993 where it has become an anchor in the ever-growing and changing neighborhood and community. The store is one of the highest-rated independently-owned natural food stores in the New York area. We knew, before getting married and having kids, that being part of the Vermont food community would be something we would ultimately accomplish. We bought a house in Vermont 12 years ago and began searching for a space to hang an "OPEN" sign nearly 8 years ago! To have such a vast array of organic and minimally-processed local products produced in the second least-densely populated state with let’s face it, a harsh climate with a limited growing season, is nothing short of INCREDIBLE. The pride of native Vermonters and enthusiasm of transplants like us is pretty overwhelming. We’re ecstatic to be part of this movement. This is my debut in regards to gainful employment in the natural food industry. I have been a conscientious eater and foodie for my entire life and credit my previous career in the music business (and expense account!) to introducing me to far better quality food than I might have been able to afford! On that note, it's incredibly important to Michael and I to provide affordable shopping options to our local community.
