The VT New Farmer Project offers a coordinated program of education, technical assistance, coaching and mentoring for beginning farmers throughout Vermont and the adjoining region. Coordinated by UVM Extension, the member organizations include: the Intervale, the Northeast Organic Farming Association of VT, the Rutland Area Farm & Food Link, Vital Communities, the Association of Africans Living in VT, and the Student Conservation Association. Referrals between partnering organizations help new farmers access the resources most relevant to their situation. As a network, we're working together to avoid duplication of efforts, to identify and fill gaps, and to expand our collective expertise and capacity to support beginning farmers. The project is funded by the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (BFRDP) of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, USDA, Grant # 2011-49400-30500.
