Who we are:   Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS) is a nonprofit organization promoting the health and well-being of Vermont's children, farms, and communities by providing programs to connect schools and farms through food and education. GMFTS serves the school communities in the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont with school gardens, educational programming, and fresh local farm foods.

Role Description :   The Farm-to-School Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and implementing programs that educate students about food and agriculture, connecting schools with local farms, and supporting School Gardens. This role involves working closely with schools, community partners and farmers to develop and implement farm-to-school initiatives, leading classroom lessons, facilitating cooking classes, managing school gardens, and organizing farm visits.

Qualifications:

  • US citizenship

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in education, youth development, or related fields

  • Ability to provide educational leadership and training

  • Passion for promoting sustainable agriculture and nutrition

  • Experience working with diverse communities and populations

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Experience with program coordination and event planning

  • Knowledge of local food systems and farming practices is a plus

  • Offer contingent upon results from National Service Criminal History Check

Compensation and Benefits

Available to start August 19, 2024, and commit to serve until August 1, 2025, for a 1,700-hour term of Service with AmeriCorps/GMFTS. Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a Cost of Living Stipend of $25,500.00 for the year, Healthcare, set rate Mileage Reimbursement, and an Educational Award of $7395.00 at the end of service. GMFTS offers subsidized housing, an Automobile Equity Scholarship, and many training opportunities.
