Grazing & Livestock Program Coordinator

The University of Vermont Center for Sustainable Agriculture seeks to hire a full-time Grazing & Livestock Program Coordinator who will increase capacity for Extension’s grazing programming by coordinating personnel working on grazing research and outreach. This position may be located in the Extension Berlin Office, with some degree of flexibility as to the location. The person will coordinate collaboration and communication among Extension personnel whose work relates to grazing research and outreach, facilitate strategic processes, and support programming activities. This person will also collaborate with external partners and serve as a central point of contact and resource on Extension’s Grazing programming. Other responsibilities include promoting program activities and facilitating cohesion among Extension communications, planning, and reporting activities. The person will also support fundraising and administrative functions.
Minimum qualifications include education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and one to three years’ related experience. Applicants must possess facilitation skills related to meeting facilitation and group processes, strong written and verbal communications skills, and computer skills (including online collaboration, word and spreadsheet document management, email, and other forms of digital communications). Applicant must also have experience with fundraising, including grant writing, grant management, and grant reporting. Basic knowledge of grazing practices, challenges, and benefits is required.
The Grazing & Livestock Program provides technical assistance, outreach, and research-based approaches to address livestock agriculture challenges by designing improved grazing systems and building farmer skills to manage pasture and perennial forages well under variable conditions. The program spans 8-10 Extension personnel across three teams whose work all connects to pasture-based production.

Full Season Lead Baker

The farm kitchen prepares fresh baked bread, pastries, rolls, cookies, coffee cakes, tarts, quiches, muffins, and scones for the farmstand and Hello Café daily. We highlight our in-season fruits and vegetables and pride ourselves on using local and organic ingredients. The lead baker works closely with the kitchen manager to incorporate seasonal produce into recipes, schedule kitchen staff for baking, and develop new recipes for the café and farmstand. Prior bread baking, pastry or professional kitchen experience is required. The ideal candidate works well with a team, is creative, and excited to bake with the seasons.
Duties include:
- Preparing the morning bake
- Maintaining a clean, neat and organized work station
- Assisting with inventory management
- Developing and preparing seasonal specials on a week by week and monthly basis
- Collaborating on weekly and monthly menus for the dinner share and farmstand
- Following all established safety and health inspection protocols
- Managing scheduling for baking assistants
Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs and be comfortable spending a full shift on their feet. Applicants must be able to work weekends. This position is 5 days per week, one or two weekend shifts per month. Please notify us of all planned vacations in your application.

Full Season Production Crew

We are looking for dependable, motivated, and high energy team players who aren’t afraid to get dirty. Every day is different here, and we hope that you enjoy the ever-changing nature of working on a farm. It is important that you get satisfaction from a hard day’s work. As a member of our full-season production crew you will get to experience the full breadth of the season from starting seedlings in the greenhouses in April to planting the following year’s strawberries in July to putting the fields to bed in October. You will have the opportunity to learn about commercial berry production, hothouse tomatoes growing, no-till agriculture, succession planting of field vegetables and cover cropping.
Duties may include:
- Seeding
- Transplanting
- Harvesting
- Occasionally assisting with farmers markets
- Irrigation
- Processing and packing produce
- Pruning and maintaining perennial crops
- Weeding and hoeing
Applicants should be willing to learn, work hard, and enjoy being outside in diverse weather conditions. Must be able to work well both in groups and independently. Farm work is very physical, so you must be able to lift 65 lbs and remain standing or kneeling for 8 hours. This position requires working five days a week – 4 weekdays and one weekend day. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Previous farm experience is a plus but not required.
Employees who are able to commit to a full-season (Late April to October 25th) will receive a $300 end of the season bonus.
Agricultural Loan Officer

VEDA is looking for an experienced Agricultural Loan Officer to join our team located in our new building on Exchange Street in Middlebury, Vermont. Due to COVID-19, this position is expected to be remote based for a period of time.
VEDA has a strong commitment to the Addison County agricultural community and this position will work with farm and forestry applicants and borrowers in Addison County as well as throughout the state. Responsibilities include analyzing loan requests, preparing loan write-ups, servicing a diverse loan portfolio and performing annual financial analysis. In addition, the successful applicant for this position will be able and willing to mentor and teach co-workers with less experience.
A high level of agricultural and/or forest industry knowledge; strong written, verbal, and computer skills; excellent customer service; and a proven team approach are required. The preferred, successful applicant will have at least 3-7 years of agricultural lending experience, a bachelor's degree in a related field, and leadership experience. This position requires travel within the State of Vermont.
