Leaders, Schools and Partners Gather at Farm to School and Childcare Grant Awards
A March 14, 2018 ceremony in the State House Cafeteria will celebrate the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets' investment of $201,650 in 40 Vermont schools and childcare programs to develop a farm to school program that will help develop and sustain relationships with local producers, enrich the educational experience of children, improve the health of Vermont children, and enhance Vermont’s agricultural economy. To welcome the 29 new grantees, VAAFM Secretary Anson Tebbetts will host a handful of guest speakers who will help make the ceremony special, including: Secretary of Education, Rebecca Holcombe; Betsy Rosenbluth of Vermont FEED; Senator Jane Kitchel; and other State leaders, students and legislators. Major menu overhaul at The Skinny Pancake on March 1st
On Thursday March 1st, The Skinny Pancake will be unveiling a major menu overhaul at their 60 Lake Street Burlington and University of Vermont locations. Other outlets will see similar changes in the weeks and months to follow. The Flagship Skinny Pancake location at 60 Lake St in Burlington will add 15 new menu items, retire 12 items and improve 10 existing entrees. With a total of 37 changes to their menu in all, more than half the menu will have been changed or improved by March 1st. Read More

NRCS announces April 20 deadline for VT farmers to apply for agronomic practices, high tunnel assistance
NRCS' Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) can help farmers install practices like cover crops which prevent erosion, supply nutrients to crops, suppress weeds, and improve soil health. EQIP can also help with installation of high tunnels systems which help protect plants from weather extremes and extend the growing season. Read More

Flag Hill Farm Works with Vermont Land Trust to Conserve Forest, Orchard, and Trail
Vershire—Sabra Ewing and Sebastian Lousada of Flag Hill Farm worked with the Vermont Land Trust to permanently protect 239 acres of farmland and forest from development and subdivision. As part of the project, the couple also ensured public access to the westernmost section of the Cross Vermont Trail, which leads up to Flag Pole Hill. Read More
